ACTIVITY / ATHLETIC PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of the activity/athletic program at West Valley Middle School is one of inclusion rather than exclusion. Our primary focus is that students of all skill levels and abilities will be able to participate to the fullest extent of their ability.
ACTIVITIES PROGRAM
Many sports and social/academic activities are available to students at lunch and at the end of the school day. The only obligations for students are interest, cooperation, and first meeting any requirements by teachers for test, conferences, etc., before participating. Students should watch the bulletins, lunch time announcements, and the reader board for further information. Insurance coverage or waiver of insurance documentation, parent permission, and recent physical examination are required for interscholastic competition. All athletes will be informed of the WVMS eligibility requirements as stated in the district handbook and will be responsible for maintaining their own eligibility.
ACTIVITIES GUIDELINES
The following are general guidelines for student conduct during after school activities:
- School rules must be followed at all games and practices.
- Students are not to leave the campus and return for the games except on early release days.
- Be courteous. Be a good sport.
- Students are to stay in the game area. If students are in the gym, students are not to be in the hallways or outside during the game. If students are on a playing field, students are not allowed to leave the area and then return to the game.
- No food or beverage is allowed in the gym.
- Students will enter and exit the gym only when there is a break in the game.
- All day school attendance for practice and contest days is mandatory.
NOTE: During all school sponsored activities, whether at West Valley Middle School, or another facility, students are expected to follow school agreements of conduct and represent the Middle School in a positive way.
