Welcome to 7th grade science! My name is Klayton Wyckoff and I am in my 11th year of teaching, 7 of those have been teaching 7th grade science. I spent a few years teaching 5th grade in Selah, then moved to 7th grade Science in Selah, and finally ended up where I belong in West Valley. My first year here I was hired to teach a math/science block. The following year, I went back to exclusively teaching 7th grade science which is what I love to do.
This year, we'll cover the following topics: What is Science (including note-taking skills), Cells (animal, plant, cell structure, cell processes), Human Body Systems, and Earth in Space.
I am also the Head Baseball Coach at West Valley High School so that keeps me quite busy as well. In fact, last spring my team reached the state's Final Four that was played at Safeco Field (the home of the Seattle Mariners). I can't quite describe how exciting it was to play in such a stadium. Though we lost the first game on Friday, we rebounded to win the second game Saturday (by beating the #1 team in the state) and finished as the 3rd place team in the state. It was a pretty cool way to end the season. Below is a picture of us lined up for the playing of the National Anthem prior to Saturday's game.

VOCABULARY:
We have weekly science vocabulary quizzes, which are worth 10 points each. The quizzes take place on Thursday of each week unless the week isn't a typical week (vacation day, shortened week, etc). Your student has a calendar which shows the words that will be tested each week and there's also a link to the "VOCABULARY CALENDAR" below. This ends up being quite a large portion of the grade, so studying the vocabulary words regularly is pretty important. There is also a link to the "SCIENCE VOCABULARY WORDS" listed below.
DAILY WORK :
The link below to the HOMEWORK CALENDAR shows what we are doing daily in science. It does not necessarily mean that it is homework. In fact, most work will be completed in class. If it doesn't get finished during class, then it becomes work to be completed at home.
